Editor's review
Audio Editor Gold is a digital-audio editor with a user-friendly price. It`s the perfect program for home studio recording and for people just getting started with audio editing.
Pros: A straightforward interface allows the application to record, mix and edit audio in a fairly simple manner. The built in editor makes the standard cut/paste edits to be done easily on the graphic display presented for the recorded tracks. Editor display has two graphical tracks displayed for stereo inputs. Adding a range of effects such as reverb, chorus, echo etc are as easy as selecting the effect from the menu and the track is updated immediately.
One could edit the tracks individually or together. Use the player controls to listen and make sure the track has the desired effects. A range of effects related to volumes, starting from normalization of the channels are possible. Most major formats are supported. Though the editor is meant for amateurs, one could get professional results out of the same after a bit of learning and practice. The undo feature can always be put to good use if one still goes wrong. Analyzer tools can be used to identify problems in frequency domain via the waveform or the spectral view. There are some canned noise reduction choices. These are the cassette noise reduction that helps reduce the pattern noise created by cassettes playing back. For voice recordings there is the breath noise reduction option. Various mixing possibilities exist for mixing audio inputs on several input ports of the sound card.
Cons: The publishers of this package and Digital Audio Editor are different. But lots of menu options are almost exactly similar in both packages though the overall user interaction panels have a different look. For example, the pop up that comes up when recording is selected and the output formats option pop up have exact same look and choices. The same comments about many of the codecs being for telecom use also apply here.
Overall rating of this package is 3 stars.
